Measure twice, cut once. the idea is to check your measurement carefully before you cut, because if you measure wrong and cut it too short, you will have to throw the piece out and get a new one and cut it again. Many times I have read a ruler from upside down and instead of seeing 26 1/2 I would see 25 1/2 and when I went to use my piece I'd find it was an inch too short. it is always better to measure it several times to make sure you are looking at the right thing. Once you have cut something too short the ballgame is over.

Smiles,,, measure twice, cut once. An old analogy,,,and no offense meant to anyone... An old Rabbi was once quoted as saying,,,"I cut it twice, and it's still too short!"
