"The starter basically retains chuggin away yet does not make the engine turn over" What precisely is going on right here? Turning over skill basically that, the engine is popping. What it seems such as you're describing is the engine is popping over yet no longer beginning. If the alternator have been undesirable, the battery could be lifeless, so it is not the alternator. If the starter have been undesirable, the engine does no longer "chug away" (turn over), so it is not that the two. have you ever replaced the battery itself? A 12V automobile battery has six cells in it, if one have been undesirable it might in straightforward terms placed out approximately 10 volts, that are sufficient to run the starter, yet no longer sufficient for a competent spark. verify the battery with a voltmeter, it is going to be around 13 volts whilst no longer doing something, if it is below 12V it is probable undesirable. i might start up there!

Manual tranny: The reverse gear is not synchronized and they all grind for a moment as the spinning components try to mesh. If that is the case then forget about it, they all do that.
If it is automatic then you have a tranny issue

If it's a automatic, you're in trouble.
If it's a manual trans., ether the synchronizers are not doing their job or the rings a worn out.
