I heard these two in my yard, they were large birds. It was fall in the midwest, 11 p.m.

What did they look like?? I was going to say Kookaburra too until you said the location... add at least a brief description of the birds and I may be able to help. Size, colour, beak shape etc would be helpful!

I was going to say Kookaberra. They have very loud vocalizations that sound like the sounds used often in movies. But, if you are in the USA then I'm waaay off.

Might have been a pileated woodpecker. Hard to say without a description.

Male peacocks make that sound... They used to use it for the jungle movies...
