If the father is 3 times the age of the son (3x=x) x=son, and 6 years ago it was 5x=x, how old is the son today?

s=son
f=3s
f-6=5(s-6)
3s-6=5(s-6)
3s=5(s-6)+6
s=12

Today the son is 12 and father 36.
Six years ago the son was 6 and father 30.

I don't know. I can't figure it out. I sucked in algebra anyways.

x*5+6=x*3
5x=3x-6
2x=-6
2x/2x=x -6/2=-3 x=-3 I don't know, I'm stumped.
