I have found that my score increases by removing the largest number of tiles possible per move, but is there a penalty for undo-ing a move? Is it better to leave one tile if you can remove the rest with one "click", or is it better to remove less tiles in a singe move yet be able to remove all the tiles in two moves. etc. etc.

Good luck! Every MahJong game needs luck and strategies.

Firstly, let me state that you should one day try learning real 4 player Chinese mahjong, not the computer solitaire kind...

Anyway, for solitaire tile matching strategies and scoring: It is usually quite hard to judge the tiles underneath the pyramid or any layout. Your aim is to remove ALL of the tiles, so:

1. When you see 3 of the same tiles which can be matched, ignore until you reach a dead end. This is because there are 3 possible matches and will confuse you later on. Try matching all 4 of the same tiles at once if they are available.

2. Try matching the tiles on the edge of the layout because they will allow you to match the stuff inside.

If there is a penalty for undoing moves, it is because you reached a dead end. This is why strategy 1. is quite important...
