Don't worry so much about the supplement as you do exercise. Having to deal with it myself I have found that exercise is better for me than anything I eat. The effects of exercise are more noticeable than the medication that they have me on. You need at least 20 minutes 4 times a week. With exercise I dropped about 10 to 15 points off from the high number. You should avoid a few things in your diet, salt, smoked meat, fat, sugar, caffeine and highly processed foods like Twinkies (the doc says white flower too). If you think that you need to add something to your diet try nuts, fish, and whole grain foods like Cheerios's and oat meal. Changes in your diet affect different people differently, like caffeine affects me where it does not others. After you make changes to your routine you will need about two weeks to notice the full effects. Go buy a blood pressure tester off from eBay and keep track for yourself. That is the only way to know what is working for sure.

There are no supplements or herbs you can take. The keys are weight loss and exercise (and exercise will help with weight loss). By changing my eating habits and walking 30 minutes a day, I lost 60 pounds and my doc took me off my blood pressure meds.

In addition to eliminating animal and trans fats from your diet, you can help clean out your arteries with whole grains (especially oatmeal), bran, lecithin and garlic. Hide the salt shaker and stay away from very salty foods (bagged snacks, canned soups etc.) - salt increases the blood volume and makes it harder on the heart.
