Lots of them did. Sometimes they wanted to get some women if there was a shortage. Sometimes they wanted to get some slaves to work their crops. A lot of the time they wanted to wipe out competitors by capturing them and selling them to Arab slavers. The slavers would transport them to the Americas for the lucrative slave market - bring slaves to US to pick cotton, sell them for money, use money to buy cotton, transport it back to the slavers' home country in the empty ships.
