Good question. Mail you mark as spam is different than mail you block. Mail you block is mail you will never receive again, but I ignore what happens to mail marked as Spam. My guess is that a Yahoo! team investigates all spam claims and them decided which are effectively spam and which are not. But if this is the case, the process might be very time consuming...

Yes, marking an email as spam does very little (depending on your ISP and email provider). Spammers "spoof" their return addresses, along with a long line of other tricks to get around spam filters.

If you don't like spam, then I suggest getting an account that filters spam. Hotmail does a suprisingly good job, AOL does an okay job (they filter about 3 billion spams a day), and spamcop.net sets the standard.

My email is set up so that when I mark something as spam, it puts that email addy on my blocked list. The problem is that they use so many different email addys to send spam that it really won't matter in the long run. I still get the same emails even after blocking them, but it always from a different sender.

Not from the same sender, unfortunately most spammers use disposable addresses, so although it looks like you are getting the same e-mail all the time, it is coming from different places.
