If you haven't been specific with her, why not try now. If you tell someone they need to be more thorough, you might not get the results you want. Talk about the tasks you want done, and how they should be done. "When you dust, do the baseboards. Use some 409 to take finger marks off the doors." That sort of thing.
Some cleaners spend a lot of time on things you don;t care about, and then don't do other things you think are important. You have to speak up.
You are going to have to keep firing housekeepers if you don't tell them your idea of clean.

I asked my cleaning lady to do some stuff that she should normally be doing anyway. That was my way of giving her a second chance. She still didn't do a good job so I told her I didn't need her anymore because i hired her so I wouldn't have to come home and clean and that is exactly what i was doing. There are lots of maids out there and you can find one that does a good job. I now have one that does an excellent job and I even pay her more.

I have a house cleaning business, so first I have a question for you. Have you discussed the quality of her work with her? Have you let her know it's not satisfactory? If you have, then there is no excuse for poor work, and just tell her that in spite of your complaints she still isn't doing the job to your satisfaction. If you HAVEN'T said anything to her, then you should. She may not know her work is sub-standard. If she doesn't improve after that, then tell her so, and tell her she's no longer needed.

How long has she worked for you? Have you let her know the things she isn't up to par on? You might want to try working with her and see if she'll improve rather than start a search for another cleaning lady

I assume that you have talked to her about this matter. I did housework for a few years, if you don't tell her, she is not a mind reader. If you have talked to her and she still has not improved, then by all means, tell her that you no longer need her service. You don't have to go into details unless she asks why.

Give her a small gift, with a card attached thanking her for her services and that circumstances have changed and you can't use her anymore.
