The northern and southern hemispheres are separated by latitude 0 degrees (the equator). Latitude is referred to as being x degrees either north or south of the equator.
Longitude lines run from pole to pole and are meridians. The prime meridian is 0 degrees and runs through Greenwich, England; all other meridians are referred to as being x degrees either east or west of the prime meridian.

Longitude tells degrees east and west. Latitude divides north and south. So I guess the real answer to your question would be....you could divide the earth into four equal parts. You could divide along the equator to form the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere. You could divide along the prime meridian to divide the eastern and western hemispheres. So I guess 0 degrees longitude or prime meridian would divided the southern hemisphere into a south-eastern and south-western quarter.

The Equator

Everyone here got it wrong!

Longitude is vertical and the Prime Meridians (which goes through England and separates East from West).

Lattitude separates north from south!

0 degrees longitude is called the prime meridian ...but it separates east from west. The equator is what separates north from south.
