I have some annoying programs that have attached themselves to my start menu. Whenever I start the computer there they are. I want them gone from the start menu....just not deleted from the computer. Some examples: QUICKTIME, AIM, IPOD and some music program. I do not even know how to tell what is in there.

How do I accomplish my mission? (In easy to follow steps, please!)

Thank you.

Go into your STARTUP section through the START MENU, then RIGHT click on the items that you do not want, and hit DELETE from the popup menu.

OR... hit RUN from the Start menu, and type MSCONFIG. Then uncheck those items.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

option 1. when you intall a program, most of them give you options to 'place an icon in the start menu', or a' shortcut'. from now on, untick the 'start menu' box. only install a 'shortcut'.

option 2. go to start. right click and select 'properties'. click the 'raskbar' tab. select 'customise'. you will see a list of program manes and behaviours. on behaviours you can select to hide the icons you do not want.

option 3. launch the application with the task bar icon you want removed. if you go to the programs menu options, ie 'file, tools, view, help' you should find a 'preferences' or 'options' panel under one of them. go through that applications preferences and you might find options such as 'add quicklauch task bar' or something similar and untick that box. when you relauch the appliaction next time, it should be gone.

-hope that helps - dave

If you have allready deleted the programe, and it's still in the start menu just right click and delete, If you want to make sure the programe itself is deleted do a search if it shows up delete each one.

put your mouse cursor over start button and instead of clicking on left mouse button click on right mouse button, a menu will pop up, then click on 'OPEN' and it will open Start Menu folder..from there you can remove start menu shortcuts

or you can do the same but click on start button and put your mouse over icon that you want to delete then click on right button a menu will popup and you just select "Remove from this list"

move your mouse over them to highlight them...then right click them...a pop up menu should appear and then click delete...this will remove it from the startup but not the computer

This is the way to do it. Click start, run, type in msconfig, go to the startup tab, uncheck any programs you do not want to start, when your computer starts. Then click apply-ok-reboot your computer..
