Firstly, have you checked the actual coolant level in the radiator proper when the enginge is cold? if it is low, but the recovery bottle is holding coolant, then it is likely the radiator cap is not functioning properly, Another possibilty is a false signal from a coolant temperature sensor. As a general rule, a vehicle that is truly running hot, will exceed the pressure limits of the system and relieve itself back into the reservoir. Also take the time to check that the radiator is not plugged by grass, dirt, bugs, etc. on the outside.

might just be as simple as your thermostat costs about 15 bucks and takes 15min or so to change to check it u just have to remove it put it in some water in a pan and bring to a boil and see if it open up if it is the thermo. then it wont let the coolant pass through the block. Hope this helps

Sounds like the old thermostat might be sticking! Cheap fix if that's the cause! Hope you knew to stop driving when it got warm cause all these newer vehicles with aluminum heads are not customer friendly when it comes to overheating!!!! That won't be cheap!!!

you know I had a car that the thomastat worked ok for a bit then it started heating up and boiling hot so I just put about 3/4 of an inch in over the hot mark of anti-freze mix and it worked like a charm!

Thermostat is stuck closed. Probably costs under five bucks for a replacement and another 2 bucks for the gasket.
