i'm plus size too, partly due to side effects from meds, partly my fault, just letting myself go. and I started out with curves that only got curvier.
I find tailored clothes that fit de-emphasize bulkiness. I just keep trying on clothes, and go for the proper fit, who cares what size. I like v-necks and boat necks and henleys to break up my large chest area. For shirts (that you leave untucked) a flattering length is right about your hip bone, covers the bad part of the tummy but is not challenged to cover all my butt.
Finding pants can be a trauma, just keep looking and do not settle for something just because it covers you. even at my fav store i will try on 6 syles before i find one that isn't cut too short in the rise, or too tight in the leg or too big in the waist. and make sure they are long enough.
Not sure what your budget is, but I have very good luck with the woman's sizes at talbot's. and if you are anywhere near one of their outlets or hit one of their sales, the markdowns are tremendous. I buy most of my clothes there. If you hit the sales, the prices are no more than you would pay at lane bryants, and the quality is vastly superior. I especially love their wrinkle-resistant shirts (all of which I bought on sale at half price). But half the time when i go to the outlet i do not find a thing.
I got a very nice dress at the outlet for $18 marked down from $160. It would be perfect for a wedding and when I tried it on for my husband he said "wow". Haven't heard that forever. lol I still havent had a chance to wear it yet but a "wow" dress for $18 was a must buy.

For jeans i go to walmart. of course I cant go to the one that is just 5 miles down the road, they do not carry "just my size" brand . I have to wait til i visit in-laws in NJ, their walmart has them.
One more thing, make sure you get tops in colors that flatter your coloring. I tend to stick with navy and black for bottoms, except khakis for summer.

I disagree with Michael M. Don't use to many layers or big shirts, it will only make you look more full figured. Believe me I know. I am a robust woman and I have noticed the more I wear loose clothing the bigger I look and feel. However, I don't do skin tight stuff either. There is a happy medium out there.
Lane Bryant, Dillard's, Sears etc. all have nice things for those of us who are voluptuous, so head out and have fun shopping.
When you go shopping for your new clothes, be sure to try them on in the store and take a friend you know will give you an honest, but tactful opinion.

Whatever you do, please don't wear baggy clothes - they just make big people look bigger, and unconfident.
Although it is hard to give advice without knowing your actual size, I'll give it a shot.
*Dark colours are slimming
*Don't wear bold prints, they will make you look bigger
*Pants with a bootcut will help balance out a larger butt & thighs
*Pointy toed shoes elongate the legs
*Make sure your clothes fit you properly- trust me that is much more flattering than too big or too tight
*Thick, good quality materials will be much more flattering than thin, crappy clingy materials
*Wear skirts that flare out, and around knee length is ideal. Any lower and it will swamp you and make you look bigger
*Shorts are probably not a good idea
*Tunic style tops will cover your butt if you want to, and a shrug is always good to cover up large upper arms
*Having a bit of volume in your hair can help too, a tight/flat hairstyle can make the head look small and body look big and out of proportion
I hope that helped a bit, sorry it was so looooong! : )

Well, i'm a plus sized woman myself... I'm usually self conscious about myself when i'm dressed in light pastel colors, however when i'm dressed in darker colors I feel better about myself. I suggest wearing clothes you feel comfortable in, not just something that always looks good, it's always better to dress as you please not to please others.
Now for this wedding, maybe a cute top with some black slacks and dressy slight hills or maybe a knee length skirt and dressy top with flat dressy shoes.
As for me I don't try to go around looking cute I just go as I feel...
That would be just jeans and a plain-old t-shirt... ;)

baby doll dresses 100 percent they hide the flaws ... it doesn't have to be the ones that are above the knee ... anything with an empire waist will work
