Elvis was tired, and he didn't think himself as being addicted to drugs but he was, most stars of that period thought that just because a drug was prescribed it wasn't a drug and were safe. He took pills to sleep some to stay awake, and this is a vicious circle, he probably didn't remember the last time he had taken his pills and died of an overdose. He was sick, and a body can only take so much abuse.
Edited to Andry, it is not disrespectful, his heart was weak because of the amount of drugs his body had processed. Yes his heart gave out, but it is because of a drug overdose.

People need to get their facts straight. Elvis Presley died of a heart attack, not a drug overdose. Heart disease ran in his family (Both parents died of heart problems). How disrespectful of you to tarnish someones memory by saying they died of a drug overdose.
Edited to Neptune: Perhaps you are right, BUT some people make it sound like he was a beer drinking coke/heroine/meth addict, which was just not the case. Bravo for stating your case so eloquently.

I think he overdosed on drugs. He had taken so many prescription drugs over the years, uppers and downers, that I think it finally took its toll.
