I had a problem with one of my youngest grandsons, He turns his head and talks, or plays with the dog etc. When He Pees.
So my bathroom stinked, stanked , stunk!!!
I bought Woolite brand Animal Odor cleaner...I think any brand would have worked!
I poured some of it strait into the potty corner, and then pumped the rest of it through the squirt bottle and washed and vacuumed
all the floors, walls and took down any fabric curtains IN MY BATHROOM AND WASHED THEM ALSO.
Next we can discuss my grand kids Basset Hound's ears and Summers EVE...........

It should have been cleaned and carpet shampooed. Carpets can be the cause of this "general odor" as well as drapes. Ask the manager to replace the drapes with fresh ones from the cleaners and ask when the carpet was last cleaned. You may need this done again--or for the 1st time. Odors come from "something"--anything but replacement or a good cleaning will only try to cover the odor up--it"s still there. Slightly wet a pair of white socks and walk around the carpet area for a while wearing them. If they get dirty--show them to the manager and insist on a steam cleaning job to get the carpet cleaned. Have a nice day.

If your apartment has carpet, I'm sorry to say you will have to have it replaced. Although odors can get into wallspace (i.e. into the insulation ), this is rare, unless you have a moisture problem.
If you have carpeting, my money would be on that. The padding,as well as the carpet itself can harbor every kind of smell (as well as germs, bacteria, etc.) that you can imagine.
Between that and a fresh coat of paint, you should do well.

Spray with Lysol or Clorox Disinfectant spray. Before going out for a few hours (to work perhaps), spray the place very heavily. It should kill the odor for at least week and perhaps permanently.

Open up all the windows to create a nice draft. After that's done, try an airfreshner like febreze. Open air works best though.
