for example: (3/4)/(1/4)? the numbers in () are the fractions and i have to divide them! how do i do it? do i change 1/4 to 4/1 and divide or does it stay the same? please help and explain!

Yes, you're on the right track when you said to change to 4/1.

dividing by (1/4) is equivalent to multiplying by (4/1)

(3/2) / (1/4)
(3/2) * (4/1)
(3*4) / (2*1)
12 / 2

When you have to divide one fraction by another fraction, all you have to do is flip the second fraction. Then multiply the numerators (the top numbers) together to get the new numerator, and the denominators (the bottom numbers) to get the new denominator.

So 3/4 divided by 1/4 is the same as 3/4 * 4/1. Multiply 3 by 4 to get 12, and multiply 4 by 1 to get 4. The answer is 12/4, or simply 3.

change 1/4 to 4/1. then multiply 3/4 by 4/1. 4s cancel outthe answer is 3/1 or 3.
