Political maps show all the boundaries and borders, and maybe indicates the major cities; physical maps show the landscape and terrain (example: Arizona is all brown while Florida is all green and Alaska is all white) regardless of national boundaries.

Physical maps show the actual physicality of the land - how it's formed, the natural boundaries that have come to be.
Political maps show the divisions between countries, cities, states et cetera as created by governments, having to depend somewhat on natural boundaries (e.g. oceans, mountain ranges) but mostly disregarding them, basing the borders on relations between governments.

Policitical maps are ones with borders defining certian areas (IE Counties, Cities, States, Countries, etc), while Physical maps have only features of the area(s) in question (like mountians, lakes, etc)

political map shows the borders of the countries, and the cities
a physical map shows the "lay of the land"---the mountains, rivers, plains, the grasslands, lakes, etc., usually with "code colors" or little symbols to show where grasslands, deserts, etc., are.
Political/physical map is the most useful, I guess, probably the one we see most often.

Political maps show anything a politician could decide: state and country borders, towns, etc. Physical maps show anything you can physically touch: mountains, valleys, hills, plateaus, etc. :)
Good luck!

Physical maps depict how nature and environmental forces have made an area.
Political maps depict how human forces have haggled and hassled to claim "their territory."
One is real.
The other is a temporary human construct.
