It means that you're screwed. You basically have to replace the motor. $$$$

A blown gasket usually refers to the head gasket, which sits between the engine block and the head of the engine.
Your Corolla (not Carolla) has 4 cylinders inline,so its 1 gasket that needs replacing as oppose to a V6 or V8 containing 2 head gaskets.
The greatest expense will be the cost of labor not parts, because the head has to be pulled off to replace the cheaply priced head gasket

If you question the diagnosis there is a easy way to ck all you have to do is 1 start with a cool engine take the radiator cap off it is usualy wright in the middle of the radiator which is the first thing under the hood round about three to four inches in diamiter push down on it and turn ina counter clockwise moshin it should release and come up then add water just water at this point when the radiater gets full dont put the cap on go to the ignition and get ready to try to start it make sure there is no one under the hood or too near try starting the engineif it starts watch the radiater cap hole if the whater starts shoting out as you crank the engine yes its a gasket or crack if the engine starts and a lot of steam comes out of the rear quite quikly it also bad if the engine now you must have a good battery wont crank seams to sound like it stuck yes its bad and in the rear case it start runs good you let it worm up with the cap off as it heats up you will have to diplace water so let it stabilize and if you get a constant flow of bubble after it warms up just siting there yes you have a small leak ps if while it running and warming up if you get a hammering sound near the front of the engine you may have to shutit down and fill it slowwly over a hour or so till it wount take any more water then start it again if that was the thermostat stuck closed if it come bake the hammer sound replace the thermostat then try again if it runs then and just sitting there it dosnt over heat ( make sure the fan starts to run eventualy also it is electric ) there is probly no problem( to ck the fan for opp hoppfuly your ac works turn on ac fan should come on automaticly if it dosnt that maybe the ultimate cause of the failure of the head gasket good luck.

A gasket may be made of rubber or cardboard. What it does is help maintain a seal between two connecting pieces of metal. It stops leaks. When it wears out, leaks occur and this is refeered to as a "blown gasket." The harder it is to get to, the costlier to fix. I know it sounds sexist (because it is), but have a guy take it to get fixed. They are generally charged less... It's not right, but that's the way it is...

If it is the head gasket, it happens when you over heat the motor caused by a broken hose of the cooling system, or damaged fan from radiator.
The result is a partial torsion of the head in the center of it, that cause pressure loss. (not always the gasket get broken)
If it is V6, they have 2 heads to take out, then must be machined to have a flat surface again, and put new gaskets.
Thats all, check different shops to get better price
Regards

A gasket is a part between two metal pieces that ensures a good tight seal. It isn't usually the gasket that is expensive to replace, it is the labor to tear down the engine block to get to the gasket that will get you. I blew the head gasket in my Honda, I was quoted $1500 to replace it!

It depends on which gasket. As someone explained, a gasket is basically a seal between 2 parts that hold in (or out) the oil, water, air or fuel.
If a gasket is 'blown' that means it leaks.
Whatever it is trying to hold in or out is going where it shouldn't.

It means that you may be leaking engine oil, it can get expensive as you have to open the engine. Look for leaks under the car. And also the coolant which should be light green for corolla will start having brown deposits

Depends on which gasket, I guess. You have one around the openings of engine, tranny, and water pump, and thermostat.

it means the gasket is leaking and cost depends on what gasket it is... and why it failed
