If your home is generally clean, they're most likely in the kitchen drain. I would never use insecticide in my kitchen, but you can pour some old wine, or cider vinegar into a glass, put plastic wrap over the top, and punch a pencil-sized hole in the top to use as a quality trap.
For the drain, if no disposal, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain, and follow with 1 cup of white vinegar. It will heat and foam the larve away. Don't run water through for at least 15 minutes so it has time to do a thorough job.
If you do have a disposal in your drain, cut a lemon in half and running cold water at 1/2 pressure, drop the pieces in one at a time, chopping each piece away before adding the next. The citric acid should take care of the larve that's multiplying in the blades, and the peel & pulp works to push any muck through.

I have a great idea. Try putting a lemon in a bottle full of beer (like in a Corona) then the nasty little nats will come to the sweet lemon and once you have a bunch of them you can just throw the bottle away nats and all. Enjoy the beer fist of course! It works.

There probably is some kind of rotted fruit that has been sitting around for a while. They usually go for the sweet food, and will grow in numbers if that food isn't thrown away. You should check around, there might be something lying around that you don't see.

Check your houseplants if you have any. The nats love to breed in moist areas such as houseplants. stir some of the top soil around, if they"re in there you will see them flying out.

They are attracted to fruit. Bananas? I have also found that they love empty pop cans. If you have any of those items in the kitchen (or basement) they will hover around the sink.
