Yes. it is.
First, because you have to get into the school. THe competition to get into Med School is rough, You have to have a good undergraduate grade average and when you are an undergraduate you have to take some pretty tough classes, like at least a year of calculus and a year of organic chemistry. and you have to get B+ or A in those courses or you wont get into Med School.
Second, once you are in Med School, the courses are as tough as the toughest courses you took when you were an undergraduate.

What do you mean by a person of average intelligence? If you mean you get Cs in your High School courses, then I would say, forget it. IF you mean you get B+ in your HS chemistry and math courses, then I think you have a chance. But it will take absolute dedication. You will have to work harder than you ever worked on anything before.

Do you have what it takes?

I can imagine that it is hard for anyone to graduate from medical school. If you have average intelligence you are just as qualified to get a degree as an above average intelligence person is qualified. The main thing is that you want to learn. Your measure of intelligence to someone else's just means that they do not have to work as hard. If you want it badly enough you can have and do anything.

So yes I would say that it is harder for a person with average intelligence to graduate because you have to work harder.

If you really want to know if you have want it takes to be a doctor. Read the book. The Great Influenza, by John M. Barry

Of course it is! But that doesn't mean it isn't worth it. Even if you don't make it - you can say you tried. That's better than never trying and always wondering if you could have. The experience will be challenging and I'm certain you can grow from it.
