To Trojan worms and key-loggers sent to your computers to read all your personal information,
but agree...
the government has a right to listen to all your telephone calls, in the hope they might catch a few terrorists

Under George Bush we as a country have lost our dignity,
integrity, and our rights as American peoples.
The government and all that apply have no rights to infringe upon the people and invade the rights of her people....period!
We as a people have the right to over turn any decision made by her government and that tit mouse Bush!!
We do not have to accept it and HE must up hold OUR decisions!!Want him gone???? IMPEACH HIM!!!!
Teach your children and friends the meaning of IMPEACHMENT!!!
We IMPEACHED Clinton for adultery!!! big damn deal!!
Look what Bush and Bush have done!!.and HE is still here???
I truly question the mind set of the majority of people here!!
Ole' Abe Lincoln and the rest of the GREAT presidents would have Bush up on treason charges!!

Because if the government follows the established rules (FISA), then what they are doing is legal. And if the worms are not following the laws, then what they are doing is not legal.
I am annoyed with things that intrude on my space, whether legally or illegally. But here's the difference. If the intrusion is by a private agent (worm), then I can block it whether it is legal or illegal. If the intrusion is by the government, then I cannot usually block, whether it is legal or illegal.
And if I cannot block it, because the govt is going to do it regardless, then at the very least it should darn well be legal.
{EDIT to DavidC} Laws. Federal laws prohibiting wiretapping without warrant if ANY party is located in the US (50 USC 1801). Read the laws. Why part of that is so difficult for people to understand?

I would like to add international calls made to known or suspected terrorists and that this information WILL NEVER BE USED AGAINST YOU IN A COURT OF LAW. Actually even your analogy is bad cause Windows XP contains a CIA key and an NSA key designed to give them access to your PC any time they want.

I don't agree that the government has the right to listen without a valid court order. People are getting to be such idiots. I have nothing to hide from the government but I don't want them to know anything I am doing.

I don't think that the government has any right to listen to phone calls or read any personal information without a warrant. So I guess the question doesn't apply to me, right?

The only harm the government can do is to terrorists which helps everyone else. It only takes 1 terrorist to commit an act that can cause many innocent deaths

If the cops are chasing a guy who just murdered someone and the guy runs into your house, do the cops have to stop? Why should it be any different when using the telephone?

Because I have faith in my government, and I trust in their judgement. I believe that if the US govt feels it is necessary to look at my records, tap my phone calls, or read my e-mails, IF THEY ARE DOING IT TO KEEP ME SAFE, then I have no problem with it. Hackers and viruses are a different story.
