By maternity leave--I am assuming you mean a time off and paid leave. Unfortunately some companies do not have a good maternity leave program. I worked at a company that would pay 60% of your pay while on leave 8 wks. But, I never was pg there. Then when I had my first, I was at a company with that gave 6 wks unpaid maternity leave. It sucked. There is also FMLA (family medical leave act) that allows you to take 12 wks unpaid at a company. You can also take that in addition to leave they give---up to one year from the birth. This is also ok for fathers to take too. You cannot get fired for this. I also think that MAYBE you have to have been employed for at least a year. As far as getting paid from someone--no. However, see what kind of options you might see under short term leave of abscence....though, those are mostly unpaid. Good luck.

There is federal and state law which requires that your employer give you three months off for maternity leave. After the leave they are required to rehire you. However, there is no legal requirement that you be paid maternity leave.

The only think you can do is check the various governmental assistance programs in your state and locality to see what kind of help you are elgible for--and there is some.

The good thing is that public assistance will be a short term thing since you will have your job back.

I am not positive, but I am pretty sure the Family Medical Leave act requires a job to allow you at least 6 weeks maternity leave. I would look into it.

The federal government provides a program call "The Family Medical Leave Act" Your employer has to comply with it. I can't believe they don't have maternity leave. I would contact the EOE and ask if they are in compliance with all state and federal mandates.

WHAT?....Okay so basically you will have to take time off with no pay when you give birth or lose the job all together?...I think you should try and apply for some type of government assistance. Even though you work , your job doesn't provide maternity leave and so you may be eligible for some financial assistance.
Good luck!

Go to http://www.dol.gov/elaws/fmla.htm. or call 1-866-487-9243 to find out what the restrictions are for your state. In TX you must have worked at the co for at least 9 mos and the co must have 15+ workers on their payroll. Good Luck

If my memory serves correctly, a few years ago the Congress passed a law providing for people such as you. I would contact your nearest Equal Employment Opportunity Office (under Dept of Labor, USGOVT). They should be able to help you. If not they should be able to redirect you to a local state program
