Everyone wants to feel special, everyone thinks that their way is the best way. One of the most apparent differences would be in how we look. There isn't just prejudice against races, there is prejudice between men and women, blondes and brunettes, etc. Also, parents teach their children their own personal values and beliefs. Therefore, if you've got a parent who is a racist, you are very likely to find their children are racists too.

I honestly think that prejudice exists in our world because people aren't content with themselves. It is human nature to find flaws in others to make one's self feel superior. If a person cannot find a flaw they pick on differences that they can in some way translate into a flaw. For example, a white person may pick on or be prejudice against someone with a darker skin tone to make himself/herself feel superior. This might have been what happened back in the early days when Christopher Columbus set the ideas for the slavery of Africans. He saw them as savage or inferior because they had different customs and different skin colour than he. Prejudice is passed on from generation to generation from parent to child. Once something is implanted in one's head, it is quite difficult to change an opinion no matter how good or horrible it may be. Prejudice is one of those things that as a small child one may form an opinion of a specific "group" or race or whatever it may be which sticks in their mind for a good deal of his/her life.

Certain races commit by far most crimes.
People tend to not trust and dislike all of this race. Even though there still is a lot of good, caring, honest and fun to be with people of this race. They get stereotyped.

There can be no light without darkness; no good without evil; no wisdom without ignorance; no kindness without prejudice.
