My kids have already started their annual drive-mom-crazy round of This Week's Costume Ideas. For a while they were going to be Link, from the "Legend of Zelda" games -- our 9YO was to be young Link and his 15YO sister, Adult Link. Then they both got hooked on "Full Metal Alchemy" and they want to be characters from the series. By October 15 they will have had four additional ideas, and my wife will stay up till 4 AM the morning of the 31st sewing.
Last year it was a Godzilla costume for the boy, complete with lighted spines down his back for the Atomic Fire-Breath look, lighted red eyes on his head, and best of all, the genuine Godzilla scream -- we bought a recorder from Build-a-Bear and recorded a really good scream on it (I think it actually came from Godzilla Versus Megalon.) The boy kept it in his costume, so when people asked what he was he'd hit the button and there was the trademark Godzilla "Squeeee-OONK!" sound.
I don't dress up for Hallowe'en, but I dress up the house. We have a dozen articulated skeletons, four or five blacklight fixtures, a small pile of glow-in-the-dark skulls, and a small selection of animated figures -- including the addition this year of a skeleton that pops up and down out of a tree stump. I have hours of MP3s of sound effects, eerie music, and the like which I pipe through the big speakers out into the front yard. And THIS year, dammit, we're going to do the chiller for the fog machine -- we have a fog machine, have had it for years, but the fog always goes up. There's a way to modify it so that the fog clings to the ground as in "The Wolfman." This year for sure!

My husband an I are dressing up as a Hershey's Hug and Kiss.
But we don't have children yet, only three cats (but they dress up too lol).
Lily (calico) has a little pumpkin shirt (origionally made for a small dog but it looks so cute on her)
Slayer (silver tabby) has little angel wings
Mia (siamese) has a little china doll shirt
