what are they doing about the abuse in their own back yard?

"The president's spending plan for next year omits programs approved last year in the Violence Against Women Act. Anti-violence advocates challenge the cuts as political, saying the savings are too small to make a dent in the overall budget picture."

I think that the difference is that the US isn't encouraging violence or specifically trying to keep women down and uneducated. There are certain countries and cultures that specifically try to do that. The Taliban were one such group.

Just because funds were shifted out of some social programs does not mean that the US is sponsoring and promoting the abuse of women.

Also what your quote above fails to do is to provide the reason for the cut. Maybe the Violence Against Women Act was not meeting it's objectives. It's not uncommon for funds to be withdrawn from programs that aren't making progress. I'm unfamiliar with this specific act so I don't know. Just a possibility.

Protecting women or any other person is the responsibility of the state. Why must we look to the federal government for all the solutions. Then complain that the Federal government is involved in our lives, too controlling and too expensive.

How many American women are being forced to wear burkas? How many American women are being whipped for exposing their legs and figures on the beach? Have you ever seen a woman beaten on the streets of America for wearing a mini skirt?

Where in America are females being denied an education, jobs, housing?

Wake up and get your head out of the liberal clouds and see what a great country America really is.

The abuse that goes on in Islamic countries is government sanctified and it's really not comparable. We don't have women being shot in the head in soccer arenas during public executions.Don't get me wrong - I am not downplaying domestic violence. But it seems to me this should be more of a state level issue - not federal. If someone hits their spouse, it's under state, not federal jurisdiction.

I think the ranges for sentencing guidelines in assault cases allows for appropriate punishment for assault cases as they are written.

Also, I don't think that the Violence Against Women Act could withstand a competent challenge under equal protection.

BTW, women in the USA don't get stoned by their government for having sex outside of marriage.

You mean like Satanic rock bands and stuff like that. Some country or a league of countries ought to publicly address the hidden workings of rock n' roll. That would knock America down a big notch.

If you are dreaming of a home (America) with no crime, keep dreaming. Ask yourself, is it possible to completely control crime from happening? Sometimes, with limited resources one has to forgo the smaller good for the greater good.
