I personally do not because the European Union has issued statements stating Turkey must become a fully democratic nation, as well as recognize the Genocide of 750,000 innocent Assyrians, 1,000,000 Armenians, and close to 1,000,000 Pontius Greeks which were killed between the years of 1914-1918. What do you think?

No, they still have a long way to go before they can become part of the civilized world. First of all, one of the requirements for E.U. admission is to open up their ports and airports to Cypriot vessels by the end of October. Due to internal conflict in the country (military regime VS official government) this is not going to happen any time soon, thus officially putting a halt to the admission procedures. Then there are several other things that should be taken into consideration, such as the constant denial of all the turkish governments to regognize the genocides that they executed against millions of innocent people and in some degree continue to do even now with the Kurds (constant opression, human rights violation, etc.). And if that wasn't enough, fundamental democratic principles such as freedom of speech seem to be unknown words for the turkish regime (google up articles about trials in Turkey about books and authors that dare to write about the aforementioned things). I sincerely hope that Europe holds strong till the end, keeping the door closed to such countries that are literally against everything that Europe stands for.

I would have said yes last or the two years ago. This year, no one seems to care about Turkey as much. I would like to see Turkey not part of the EU, but somehow given special friendship status. Perhaps, it will depend on Turkey's commitment to the NATO mission in Afghanistan. Europe to me is based in Rome and a muslim nation joining, doesn't quite fit the old image.
