We've already told my parents, but we haven't told his because we want to tell them in person. I wanted to think of a cute way to tell them. We don't have an ultrasound or anything yet, so that's out.

What my husband and I did for my parents was put my best friend's ultrasound picture in a Christmas card (it was December 23rd when we found out). When they opened the card, it took a minute, but when realization set in, the tears flowed, and the joy ensued.
Other things: in a small box, place some small booties and then allow them to open the box. You can also find a rattle (you can find some that are metal, and have it engraved with a notation for the new grandparents - a close friend of mine did that, and it was a hit), wrap up a baby bottle, with a cute little note inside welcoming the news of the upcoming addition to the family. I also had a friend that gave her parents a family tree, with the baby at the top of the tree. Her parents loved it.

Send them a really nice card that says something like... So you're going to be Grandparents! Or the both of you make the phone call if they live any distance away from you. How ever you choose to do it. Do it soon, there is nothing worse than discovering you were the last to know about becoming a grandparent! By nature the new mom's parents usually find out first and then the new dad's parents. no aunts or uncles or friends in between. You best hurry now because all of Yahoo knows! smiles and Congrats!

we sent our parents (both his and mine) a card with an ultrasound pic in it saying hi grandma. but i had to get an ultrasound when i found out i was pregnant, i don't know if you would want to wait the 18 weeks or not...or you could just send them a card with any baby's picture on it saying the same thing...hope this was helpful....

Buy a baby outfit and wrap it. When you go to visit, tell them you brought a gift for them. When they open it, say something like..." Oh, darn it. I should have checked the size. That will NEVER fit you. I guess we'll just have to keep it."
Or...
While you're talking to them...dig around in your purse like you're looking for something. Pull out a pacifier and hand it to one of them, saying "Here, would you hold this for a minute?" and if they don't get it still, hand the other a pair of booties.

Buy a little neutral colored onesie in a tiny size and get some colorful T-shirt paints. (about a dollar a color, they even have glow in the dark & glittery) and write on it "I LOVE MY GRANDMA & GRANDPA!" and give it to them in a cute little gift box, as if it was a gift for them. They will not only love the fact that you went thru the trouble to make it so special, but they will love it when thier little angel wears it too!!!!!

Learn how to knit and when you visit, have the little project with you. And when they ask you what you are making, hold it up and let them guess. It could be a pair of booties, or a little blanket. ITs very simple and relaxing when pregnancy gets hectic and you need down time.

my husband and i bought a huge and i mean huge xmas stocking and put "baby and the first letter of our surname" in letters on the front - it was a good idea because everyone in the family has an xmas stocking
mind you i am not due til feb so it wont be here for xmas but if it was i could put it in the stocking it is that large

Buy them a card for Grandparents. You can also make one on your computer. Kind of like an announcement. Also you can attach it to a gift for grandparents like a mug or shirt, or something.
