Does anyone know the real story behind the failure of the Lake Forest Pastry Shop on Clayton Road? After the buyout in 2002 it operated less than ayear before closing. The truth please!

I used Lake Forest for years when we lived in that area. What happened after they were bought out, in my opinion is that they changed their recipes and quality. With the rising costs of dairy, I believe (from taste and quality of before and after products), that the new owners skimped on the ingredients that made Lake Forest what it was.

I remember distinctly the last thing I bought there was some cupcakes for my daughters and they said they were icky tasting and we threw them away.

I'm sure there are business reasons, the changing demographics of the neighborhood, the galleria, that sort of thing, but frankly from a customers point of view, Lake Forest died when it was bought out.

I heard from another baker that it was retirement. Not sure though. There's a place called Party Pastries on Clarkson and Clayton that is pretty good. They make some of the same stuff that Lake Forest did. I really miss Lake Forest though. If you go to Party Pastries, get there early. If you know of another bakery that's as good as LF, email me. Please. I know there are some bakeries in south county that are supposed to be pretty good, but that's a long haul for me.
