i am an international student studying in america. i found it a little bit hard to make friends with local people... most of the people here like funny people, but i'm not the kind of person who likes joking a lot. i was quite annoied, or say depressed by not having many american friends.
can anyone tell me what american young adults usually think when making friends with international peers?

When I was in high school, one of my good friends was from Thailand. he was extremely popular, even though he did not speak the language well. He did this by smiling a lot, and using good body language.
So, even if you are sad and depressed, fake it a litle bit. Smile and wave anyway. Good luck

I would suggest that you just try to smile a lot and give as friendly an appearance as possible. While I'm not international....I have lived in the U.S. all my life....I am very shy and used to have a hard time meeting people. Then I discovered that, because I was so quiet and didn't smile very often, people thought that I didn't like THEM. If you give a friendly appearance, as if you are enjoying their company, they will be more likely to approach you. It worked pretty well for me.
By the way, ignore the jerk who suggested that you leave the country. We're happy to have you here !!!

I am an American and I still find it difficult to make friends with people. All I can say is be yourself. You may never be very popular with many Americans but if you find a couple of people who understand you and like you then you are as lucky as any REAL American in finding a friend. GOD BLESS

well i don't know where you are at but im from Las Vegas, Nevada and there many people here from differant countries and i have a blast with them. Try to find and make friends with someone that is very extroverted usually they have lots of friends and you can mingle that way. We are a very friendly bunch of people you should have no problem. americans typically have so many outlets for their entertainment they we become isolated by using TV, internet, movies, working extra, etc.
try a book club at your local library if you like books, maybe take a class and chat with the other class members, hang around a college or university campus and talk to people

im a "young adult" you could say. my cozinz are in the same poitions right now. for sure dont change who you are as a person you will make friends. maybe try starting conversations with people in your classs who you think could be potential frnds. ill be your friend if you cant find anyone else but i bet you will, good luck!

The white guy killed off many of the community human beings. They married many who were left. My grand mom being one. So we are more beneficial mixed than the classic Mexican. The Spaniards being more beneficial tolerant married the Indians in that portion of north united statesa.. Then there is the diverse fetchers of the diverse international locations. just be yourself smile at others even say hi you might get unfriendly request but you might get some good responses where around are you located go to some busy spts peolpe will come up to you somethings if your just by yourself also where are you from? Tell about yourself and ask about others

All you have to do is be yourself don't pretend to be someone your not... people will see u for who u are, and not what u pretend to be... there are so many people that act like they are cool by joking around etc etc...but are really hiding their real self,,, don't be depress it start by saying hello to people get out and have fun...Please give it time it will all work out in time
