I listen to country music and now I sound like I'm from the South. Some people pick it up by exposure, some have to practice, some need help, like a coach. Taking a class in the language will probably help.

See what works for you. I wonder why you want an accent!?

well technically we all have accents.. easy way to get yours messed up (it wouldn't be perfect like the accent from where it originated but...) talk to and be with alot of those who you wish to sound like..

but it takes a while to catch on.. you won't notice it happening.

i had a 'maryland' accent (mid-region) we use t's alot at the ends of our words like for kill it was kilt.. so on.. we sound kinda dumb at times depending on where you reside.. in maryland where i was from.. no one noticed.. soon as i moved...

bang i had an accent.. :D now it's changed again.. i live around a russian and someone from california... so it's kinda weird sounding now. .... recently someone from england has become our neighbor and may hang around for years so i assume yet again my accent will change being around them alot.. who knows..

all i know is being around others... from different regions often, quite often actually will affect your way of talking.

being online can do it for long periods of time in VC (voice chat) with those who speak differently can leave a impression...

moving to another country.. sooner or later you'll pick up on their dialect.

spanish? you want spanish? come where i live... you'll pick up on it in a year or so... your english will be quite different... and you may pick up on their usage of vowels and how they sound out words.

so on.

i know i went the long way around this question but... being with someone close, another country or region can affect the way you talk and how you pronounce words and use the vowels.

being around an iranian woman for 18 months changed the way i used the vowel 'i'.... here in america mostly it's pronounced EYE.... over there it's E.

so instead of saying EYEran.. for iran.. i now say EEERON instead....

just hang with a different crowd.
listen to the language. frequent yourself to it.. your use will change.. most will call it broken speak or broken accent.
you are hard set in your accent what you have now i'm unsure if you can speak adequate french or spanish..but your voice and speech would change.

i'm not sure really the average time it takes but i think a year is more than enough to rearrange the way you talk.

oh yeh never force or fake an accent it only makes you look silly unfortunately.

they can notice, anyone they'll just laugh and say oh you wish you were such and such... just let it happen naturally.

oh, also taking classes isn't enough but it sure helps with understanding what the language means... if you can't move to the country in question that is or find someone who is of that origion.

Ask a friend who speaks spanish and maybe another friend who speaks French and they can give you accents clues...

Just fake the accent for a while and before you know it you'll be speaking like that normally! God Bless!
