I'm NOT picking on Bush here, this is an honest question.

Should we reserve the Presidency for those intelligent enough to handle the position?

I think that's a fair question. I think there must be SOME way of having a president that most people can respect and to some degree be proud of. I didn't care a lot for Clinton, but I have to admit his brains to some degree; therefore I have some respect for him, even though I don't agree with some of his ideals.

You know, I have worked with EXTREMELY intelligent people and people of average intelligence. I have often noticed that intelligence doesn't necessarily equate to "street smarts." Some of the most intelligent people I have known didn't have enough sense to come in out of the rain. At the same time, some of the most down-to-earth basic people had more common sense in their little finger than many supposed professionals.

Therefore, I think we need to have more than just an IQ as a measurement for potential leadership skills and intelligence.

Well, our government is partially a republic, modeled after the society of rome. A republic believes that the people pick the wisest among them to govern. However, intelligence is not necessarily wisdom, and much of what people consider to be wise is based upon the individual opinions of the judge. Also, IQ tests are a flawed way of measuring intelligence. The best way to elect an official is to look at their views on topics that matter to you, because you know that if they agree with you on the issues that matter, they will do what you percieve to be wise when they take office.

(please word that precise it is not any longer meant to be inflammatory; actual my trustworthy opinion.) the question is particularly interesting and is debated in training and distinctive small circles around the western international. you do look puzzled as to what a IQ score measures, on the comparable time because of the fact the attempt is meant to degree psychological ability or someone's' ability to examine. a miles shrink score than one hundred ten does not sidestep a guy or lady from being waiting to take exhilaration in project-loose politics and concerns. yet yet another opposing argument is that by using the time of a democratic society like ours all all and dissimilar is created equivalent and overall performance an inherent astounding to the political technique. the IQ is likewise quiet arguable, because of the actuality it in trouble-free words measures some streams of techniques, it is now nicely-known that there are dissimilar categories of intelligence. your 2d verify that folk with shrink IQ are greater desirable at risk of propaganda is plenty greater desirable arguable, naivety isn't unavoidably on the subject of an IQ score or intelligence for that remember. next the can of worms, "smarter people vote blue" i'm uncertain the area your getting your suggestions, yet neither social amassing holds the merely precise public of loss of awareness, in fact the democratic social amassing is allied with the merely precise public of unions in this usa, that are regularly composed of persons that have below no situations attended college. "smart cities" like Portland, Austin, DC, Boston, San Fransisco. the two San Fransisco and Boston rank indoors the final 5 optimal homeless cities in u . s . a ..actual those IQ scores are up there(sarcasm). Portland is infamous for its super share of homeless people ,and heroin habit. Washington D.C has between the optimal violent crime and gang club expenditures and indoors the U.S. Austin is unquestionably marginally blue and is surrounded by using making use of right... Texas lol. if the all and dissimilar is against the regulation to vote no longer trouble-free tyranny will take place. i'm no longer a republican even with if it does look which you're an out spoken democrat asking a loaded question. the thought smart people vote blue actual isn't precise.

Interesting Idea.
Perhaps an IQ test along with some other qualifying tests or demonstrated ability, like high jumping, arm wrestling, and hot dog eating.
Then you can consider the candidate vetted and ready for the job.
It would atleast make the run up to the election that more interesting...

The last scientifically-literate president was Thomas Jefferson.

There should be a minimum IQ requirement for voters.

This is something that has never been contemplated in the past because normally Men of stature have held the highest office. In this case we have had a daddy's boy who frankly is not up to running a grocery store let alone a mighty nation like the USA and the world.

Look at his attempt to re-define the Geneva Conventions. He reminds me of some local sheriff in a redneck town that makes the law to fit his prejudices.

Yes! Of course there should be. I believe he should also have common sense and life experience to run the country. On top of that I think he should be a successful business man. The country is a business and needs a business man to keep it running smoothly. He should also have military experience so he knows something about defend and protect.

Tofu Jesus, No one knows what IQ measures. They believe it measures pattern recognition, which is usually associated with what people believe as intelligence, so if you want a president that can recognize patterns in office well, then i guess there should be.
