Can there be a dynasty in this new salary cap age?

Not if Bettman has anything to do with it, has there been a dynasty since the 80's? Oddly enough since bettman has taken over, we have had two lockouts and no real definitive team one would call a dynasty. i think the closest we would come to is Detroit, the last 5 seasons or so, they have just dominated the regular season, winning the presidents trophy on few occassions and not too mention two stanley cups in that approxmate time period. As well as they had all the makings of a dynasty player in Stevie Y.

with how things are in the nhl, i think it is harder to keep the same team together for longer periods of time like how detroit did through the 90s. detroit was not a dynasty, but they were a great team to watch. they were not a dynasty but they won three cups in 10 years. in the new nhl, free agency and salary caps affect how much a team can spend to keep them a winning franchise. if i could pick some teams to be possible dynasties it would be the san jose sharks, the anaheim ducks, the edmonton oilers, the buffalo sabres, and the montreal canadiens. those teams are young, fast, and quite capable of winning multiple stanley cups.

I hate to say it (cause i'm a wings fan), but i think the Penguins will have the next great dynasty. It won't be for a few years but i think in like 4 or 5 seasons they will have a team that is consistently at the top of the league. They have so much great young talent coming into the league. Guys like Crosby, Malkin, Armstrong, and Fleury. When these young guys come into their prime they will be one of the most dominant teams in the league. Any team that has lots of young talent like that will build a great team that will stay on top for a long time.....just as long as they don't trade those guys away. Washington is another team that could be good in a few years. Ovechkin will be at the top of the scoring race for many years to come.

I would have to say that dynaties are a thing of the past in the modern day salary capped NHL. It's very difficult to maintain a strong winning team when you are unable to reward your players for peak performances. Witness the unprecedented player movement in the league since the new CBA came into effect. Any team that wins can expect to have competition from other teams in keeping their players in the fold for a run at repeating. It makes for a much more competitive league and as we saw last season, anyone making the playoffs has a legitimate shot at taking the Cup.

Once Malkin is out of the legal issues(Russians want him back) the Penguins have the best chance. Come on with things like Oh they have Chelios and Thorton, how long can Chelios last. A dynasty means that it is over YEARS. Not one or two, but more like 10. The Penguins have alot of young talent, which is why they have one of the best chances.

Well it will be a canadian team cuz of the calgary flames and edmonton oiler playoff runs that showed the league that it is still a CANADIAN GAME!!

Personally i think its the flames.

they have Mikka Kiprusoff they best goalie in the league. Jarome iginla when hes on his game hes unstoppable. Alex Taunguy Feared Scorer. but in the next 2010 the pitsburg penguins they have crosby malkin and Andre-Fleury all great top ten picks
