I talked my sister into getting my 6 year old nephew a Firefly because she's a single mom and he was starting school. I think for safety reasons it's an amazing idea!!! Do I think an elementary school kid should have a sidekick w/ unlimited minutes and texts and picture capabilites? No, but something for kids to stay in touch w/ Mom and Dad because they walk home or go to friends houses etc.? Yes. Too many kids get lost, miss the bus, get kidnapped these days etc. So, yes if the parents can afford it and/or attach the phone to their current plan. Absolutely! :)

There is no reason for a 9 year old to have one, or 10, 11, 12 for that matter.

I would have it programmed to where she can only call family and 911. Still it worries me that some sexual predators may find a way to get to her through the cell phone if you know what I mean.

I don't think so. I don't think a child that young has any business with a cell phone.

If it is something she can only use for emergencys or to call her family, then why not? Technology could get her out of a sticky situation.

I don't think so. At the very youngest, I'd think 12
