If I understand you correctly, you don't trust him in a dancing sense. Do you think he might drop you? Find out if he ever dropped anyone and if no - you probably have less reason to not trust him. Also, analyze what feels unsafe, exactly at what moment, and address it with him and with the teacher. If you still feel unsafe then probably you should trust your gut reaction.
If it is simply a matter of him messing up his footwork and making you both look bad - well, do you think he's a good dancer? If you don't like his dancing and you can place exactly what it is, is it possible for you to address this particular issues with him and/or the teacher? It's not like you'd be telling on him, it's al part of work.
