I have just bought some Canestan AF cream, it says it treats athletes foot and JOCK ITCH, what is that.?

I was told to get some for psoriasis of the groin, will this do me any harm being so close to such a delicate place.

The "AF" in this stands for "antifungal" which is why this treats both athlete's foot and jock itch, both of which are fungus infections in different places. Since this brand is listed for use in both areas, it should not be a problem with the more delicate areas. (Some athlete's foot creams and preparations might be too harsh to use in the genital area, but this one is labelled for both.)

The doctor may think your psoriasis is complicated with a bit of this fungal infection or may be trying to prevent one. Perhaps there are even studies showing that an antifungal might help with psoriasis, which is not normally considered an infectious process. But the psoriasis lesion and the itching and scratching increase the risk of getting infections.

The groin is also a moist area, and likely sweaty feet, this is a good environment for yeast and other funguses to grow. Keeping this area dry can help reduce the risk.

First of all, let me reassure you that rubbing Canestan AF (an anti-fungal cream) into your groin will do you no harm whatsoever.

Athletes foot is tinea pedis, Jock itch (an American term for fungal infection of the groin) is tinea cruris. As you can see from the first part of their names, they are related conditions ... both fungal infections. (They like moist areas of the body.)

its an anti fungal cream jock itch is thrush as it atheletes foot, it wont really do a lot for you psoriasis to be honest, a bit of e45 cream should do the trick
