You don't typically focus a telescope lens by rotating it. You focus by moving the lens in and out. Try doing that very slowly.
Tell me more about your scope and I might be able to offer more help.

Any eyepiece that works with the 8 will provide an same magnification with the ten inch as they are an same focal length. are you able to describe the priority slightly better, are you able to bypass by concentration,? Is your focuser easily operating or is it slipping? Is the scope collimated wisely? Is the secondary reflect sparkling? First i might want to be sure if the focuser has adequate variety then i might want to check out the others. i might want to also contact Orion both through digital mail or telephone to be sure in the experience that they could help settle on it.

You have to do the magic telescopal jig to the telescopally gods.
First wave your hands up an down. Then put your hands on your hips and bounce. Then improvise. Finish with a naked bath in the waters of your local lake and/or swimming hole. Then you should be abe to see.

You may have a lens on backwards, or the stand may not be stable enough.
