I think it was a fabulous story because it was very similar to a Medieval classic called Pearl, which if you ever want to compare, you might enjoy doing so. I think the allegorical nature of the story is wonderfully subtle. I hope you enjoy the ending.

I read it as a teen and it is one of the few books that has remained clear in my mind. I found it haunting,mystical and moving.....almost a dream in book form. I think I shall have to go find a copy and read it again,thanks for reminding me!!

I did a long time ago and then again last summer. I like Steinbeck and his good vrs. evil situations. It is a moving shot piece. It isn't my favorite piece by Steinbeck, it is good.

It's one of those books that I was glad I read once and may again sometime if the far future, but didn't love. It's just different.

its not great but its interesting
kind of sad but not at the same time
i think its just the type of books he writes
but yeah... read it a couple of years ago for school

i think it was a great book , it shows how the poor people try to live there life , the pearl leads to great suspense , one of the best books ive ever read.

It sucked, because those stupid dudes were always trying to dive and get pearls. I hated those dudes. It sucks, and the end sucks worse.
