Heavy metal was a term used in the '60s to describe bands with a lot of distortion. Jimi Hendrix, the Who, and even a couple Beatles songs were considered heavy metal. So, you could say so. Zeppelin I does fit the definition of metal. But the guys in Zep didn't want to be pigeonholed in a specific genre, so they branched out and played all kinds of styles. All that really matters is that it's damned good music.

Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever!
In the 70's they were considered heavy metal.....by today's definition though they are just hard rock
Led Zeppelin paved the way for every band that followed....no one can touch then tho as far as talent!
just my opinion, tho!
Peace

It's difficult to believe that you don't already know the answer to that question, if you claim to anything at all about music.
