I want to add a 2 ft wide pet ramp on the side of my house. How far must it be from the property line? Do I need a permit to build a pet ramp?

We can't answer that question. You need to check your local building codes to find the answer to that.

I think this is a Q for your local Zoning/code office. Most areas I've ever lived in have a 5 foot limit to a property line.

Build It! You own the home and there is no roof on it, you go and build it. Its on your property and it like building a deck on the back of the house, you do not need any stupid time wasting money giving to those people that would love to go ahead and take it anyway. Your paying enough taxs already to feed the judge. No roof? BUILD IT!

The local zoning office should be able to tell you, or search the web for your areas setback ordnance's. In my area its 30 feet and you need a permit for everything.

It's safer to ask, first. If your local building dept. finds your proposal to be questionable, you are more likely to get a variance before, than you are after.

zoning regulations vary from state to state and town to town in a state. best bet is to check with your local authorities.
