I mean the little white ( sometimes yellow ) boxes high up on the walls, I thought they were alarm boxes like we have in Australia, but when I see in the houses on shows like property ladder, there is no sign of sensors, they seem to be on all the houses, so I was curious?

I think you are refering to alarm boxes as you said. I've not seen a gas or electricity box yellow i must say. Are you sure you haven't seen sensors around the houses, they are fairly discreet and wouldn't be massively obvious on a professionally filmed tv programme. Another reason may simply be that the owner of the house has taken the sensors out.

They will be alarms.

TV programmes aren't going to show you where all the sensors are because they don't want to be responsible for the house getting broken into.

Some of them may even be fake alarm boxes. It makes it look like the house has an alarm, but in reality it doesn't.

the little white boxes on the out side of English houses contain meters for measuring the usage of gas and electricity for that house hold for billing purposes . this saves time for the meter reader by not having to depend on the house holder not being at home to allow access to the internal property. unfortunately not all hones have theses boxes as some do have internal meters for utility's .

If they are high up they are alarms. Just bellboxes. If low then might be meters. I'm guessing alarms as you said higher.

The movement sensors are inside the house. They only go off if somone breaks in so naturally you can't see the sensors :)

if it is sittung on the porch, it's probably a milk box. Once common in the United States but very rare now, fresh milk was delivered right to your front porch by the milkman!

Oh they are alarms alright.....and you ought to hear the noise they make when an intruder trys to enter the house.....It would waken the dead. Great little boxes they are.
