I live in NC so it's been getting nice enough outside to turn my air off and open the doors. But I can smell some skunky odor from outside. NOT a skunk.

Not sure of the 'real ' name, but there's a plant that grows in wet areas, big leaves that look a little like tobacco leaves, it looks like the leaves just grow from the ground, not on a stalk or vine, and it gets yellow colored flowers occasionally, and smells just like skunk, we always heard it called "skunk cabbage".

If you have a boggy area, (very wet, pond like) there is such a plant call a skunk plant .
It has a beautiful yellow flower, don't pick it your hands will smell for weeks. (from experience)

It is possibly a tree? Maybe a Gingko? The fruit smells like rotting flesh. Really bad.

There's a plant called skunk cabbage but it grows in swampy areas. It may be animal urine (cat pee is horrible smelling). I'm guessing that some animal sprayed your plants.
