Do you know what the woman was suffering from or what symptoms she was displaying? Too high a concentration of a solution will draw water out of the cells (hypertonic) so the cells are unable to function correctly too low a concentration will cause water to enter the cells and the cells will burst in an isotonic state there is no exchange they are in equilibrium. i would go for the hypo solution causing death.
