Need to connect to a Wireless Network. Pop-up window tells me that the WLAN- Wireless Assistant is on. With limited computing knowledge, it means "Assistant" as a person assisting and NOT the. actual Network, am I correct in my thinking. So, I do have a Firewall , which probably needs to be disconnected while I connect to a wireless network. Please respond- oh wise computer Expert!

Very good, Guys! So, since I'll be flying to my relatives----I shouldn't "get ready" to get wireless connected untill I reach my destination. Another thing- does "wireless" have anything to do with my ac adapter & power cord?

OH- sorry- what do I clean my laptop screen with. Glanced at google, some guy said to clean it with gravel - but that doesn't sound sensible! Please respond or it's off to the gravel pit!

there's no need to disable your firewall you'll still be able to connect to a network. The wireless assistant will automatically detect wireless networks that are within the area and notify you if they are unsecured or secured.

the easiest thing to do tho is find an internet cafe near your relatives house and connect there. If you need help someone should be able to assist you.

Do not turn off your firewall, especially when connecting to unknown wireless networks. The Wireless Assistant is just for helping you connect to another wireless network. It is a computer program.

It sounds like some program loaded on your laptop.
