Use statistical hypothesis testing. This is the accepted scientific method. Everything else is nonsense.

You have a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis. Determine your test statistic and the power (alpha)of your test;alphas of 0.01 and 0.05 are common.
If comparing means (a common test statistic), have a sample population of sufficient N for a standard normal distribution (usually over 40) or t-test if under. Perform the statistical analysis.

If you cannot reject the null hypothesis based on the outcome of the hypothesis test, than you accept the alternative hypothesis.
