I must say that I can barely tolerate going out in public because of this sometimes. Why are people acting like this. Why has this technology brought these terrible qualities in people to the surface?

Yes may be ur right. People are always occupied with their cell phones in public places that they tend to forget their surroundings and become rude. I would say that even after having a cell phone people are so obsessed with their cell phone that they have developed the habit of checking their phones about every 5-10 mins. I mean to say that the primary thought in their mind is always the phone and nothing else. I wonder why this is happening with phones cos there are lot of ther electronic gadgets like the Walkman, digital diary and games. But people are so much hooked to their phones that they don't even bother to look around sometimes causing inconvenience to others.

In general, I agree with you about the use of cell phones and rudeness. It's not the technology that has brought out these terrible qualities in people. These people would be rude anyway. It's just another way to show it.
Cell phones can be good in emergencies and I'm glad that I have one. However, I have seen people use cell phones while they are ordering food like pizza (for example). They come in talking on the phone, ask the person to wait, get their order, pay for it and then go back to the call or they continue the call while the person behind the counter is trying to wait on them. I think you'll be seeing cell phones backlash.
About a year ago, my cousin's husband passed away and the viewing was held in church. He was a very popular man and there were so many people going to his viewing to pay their respects that the line went around the church. My husband and I were standing with another cousin and her spouse when the man in front of us got a CELL PHONE CALL. Why was it necessary to have it on in a situation like that. A few minutes later, his phone rang again and one of the family members said in a LOUD voice that if the cell phone rang one more time, there was going to be trouble. Couldn't the man have put it on vibrate or mute if he was expecting a really important phone call?
It's things like this that bug others about cell phone users.

I don't mind cell phones but I do feel they are missed used. I manage a quick serve restaurant and there is nothing more irritating than someone
#1 Holding up the line while they talk on the phone and study the menu
#2 trying to order while there on there cell phone and giving me looks like I'm bothering them because I need to collect there money and get the line moving.

It also strikes me funny that you will still see two girls walking and hanging out shopping or whatever and both of them are on the phone with someone else

So yes it has affected society!

What do you expect to find when you go out? I don't think cell phones are making people anything more than available. I am a little concerned about some people talking on the cell while driving, and they become too involved in the conversations. However, this could happen too if there was another person in the car talking with the driver. I have seen some drivers constantly looking at the person next to them as they talk instead of watching the road while they drive.

I like the cell phone generation. I think it's going to help keep families closer together and friends too.

I have had cell phones, and now I don't. I think it has made people ruder, but only if they don't know you. Just like driving a car brings out the worst in a lot of people because they know they will never see you again. People are self centered. We live in a "me first" society and a "microwave" society at that. Everyone wants instant gratification and they want it before you get it and if you get in their way...DAMN you!!!! Selfish, selfish people.

Society in a whole is more ruder. Cell phones just added to the problem. People are using them in movie theathers, librarys, all the wrong places at the wrong times. Its not the technology, its just people.

surely. additionally stupider and lots extra self-based. i've got considered people on the telephone walk into traffice or provide up at the same time as crossing the line and basically approximately get hit by utilising oncoming automobiles because of the fact they have been extra centred on despite non-necessary project became being reported on the telephone instead of paying interest to actual life machines that could desire to kill them. i've got considered a youthful mom on the cellular provide up and turn around, letting go of her toddler interior the stroller and the stroller began to roll, increasing speedy, down the hill and if somebody on the backside hadn't provide up it, it might have long previous into the busy street. i've got considered people too motive on pushing buttons on their telephones to observe it is their provide up and then they get loud and abusive because of the fact they only ignored their provide up, like it became anybody else's fault. certainly one of my coworkers is going to get in concern if he does not provide up yaking on the cellular whilst there is paintings that should be executed.
