ok so about a year ago i moved to maryland from n.o... and while im up there i meet some ppl playing basketball. so one of the guys i start to hang out with i figure he's cool.. so about 3 months later i tell him i'm gay. but after i tell him... he yells it out to everybody outside. i'm not ashamed of my sexuality..its just that i dont want any crap for it. i told only him for a reason because i didn't know how the rest of them would take it. they took it pretty well but that doesn't change the fact that what i told him he told everyone on the entire court. but then he gets mad at some other guy who told my mom he smokes

What he did was not fair to you. But maybe he just didn't know how to react and it was the first thing that popped into his head. Like, he couldn't deal with it himself so he tried to make a joke about it by yelling it out to everybody.

You have the right to be angry. It's how you feel. Perhaps you could talk to him?

But now you know that he'll shout things out.

It's cool that you're comfortable with your sexuality. It's still your business who you tell.

Yes, you have the right to be upset. But, if it were me i would have said something like, yeah! he should know!! It's good that the guys took it well cause it could had gotten ugly! Did you ever tell him that you didn't like what he did? Well, buddy don't let it bother you! you take care!!

If you told me this in confidence and he told others, he betrayed your trust, but if you didn't make it clear that you didn't want him to say anything to others, maybe he thought you didn't care who knows. It sounds like he now knows what it's like to be on the receiving end when someone else told your Mom that he smokes. It's your business who you tell and who you don't. I think you have the right to be angry, but don't stay angry forever. It only hurts you.

well, this is a mixed bag...the Gay is in the open..not that it needed to be in the first place..why did you feel compelled to tell this guy? (You don't have very good judgement as to friends) but the guys seem to take it is stride....so it would seem that one guy is trying to do you in, the others couldn't care less.

Short answer: yes. With something like that, it's up to the individual when they want to share what information with who.

Yeah, you have the right to be angry. As Far as Him getting angry... he brought that on himself, it's funny how Karma works out that way.

Whether you're comfortable with your sexuality or not, he had no right to open his mouth about anything to anyone at all.

Yes, you have the right to be angry.

But at least you got to see karma in action--someone told his mom he smokes. (Hope she's like my mom--she'd have flayed us!)

And I'm glad they took it well.
