John Hopkins University is the #2 in the world after Harvard University. I think that settles that. Michigan is 11 if you are wondering, but keep in mind that Michigan is cheaper to attend and you will be in school for 6 to 8 years.

US News and World report is a notoriously poor evaluation of medical school...
However... Harvard, Hopkins and UCSF are almost always ranked somewhere in the top three or four. In the medical community, they are generally regarded as being the most prestigious programs in the country, regardless of what any publication states.
I would rate Duke, Stanford, U Chicago, Washington U, Brown, Columbia and U Penn as being of similar stature after the top three. Duke and Stanford have a slight advantage due to their enormous funding.

College rankings in general are nothing more than a vague approximation of where schools stand. And medical school evaluations are even more vague. There is much less difference in quality between med schools than there is between undergraduate schools. Hardly anyone gets into medical school unless they are smart and well prepared. So it doesnt matter whether you are at Harvard or at State U. you are going to be in a class with bright hard working classmates and smart teachers. When you go to med school, what counts is, are you getting the kind of experience that fits where you want to go next in life -- what kind of practice you want to have. And, do they get you ready for the periodic national tests you have to take to show that you are ready to go on....
