1) Learn how to reward yourself--if you get it done 3 days before it's due, you get to see a movie. If it's done an hour before hand, you have to put $1 in a jar. Kind of a treat/penalty thing.

2) Write the due date on a BIG calendar a week earlier than you expect.

3) Listen to your music, get in a GOOD mood, and just get it done.

4) Look at your grades and look at what you want to earn on the paper. Go for that.

I also have this problem. Something that can work, is if you keep a 'global todo list' and at the end of each day write down what you want to get done the next day. Then break that up into smaller tasks, that each take 20-30 minutes.
Sometimes we don't start tasks because we are overwhelmed or don't know where to start.... by breaking up work, we can see that it is manageable.

also a google search on this issue will give you lots of techniques.
There is also a book called 'getting things done' which has a huge following.

you're not going to until you have something to lose. For example, in undergrad if you don't go to class or wait until the night before to do a paper, what happens? You stay up all night to finish the paper and lose sleep. If you know you can get it done why do it early. If for example you have to do a senior thesis and failure to make a deadline means you don't graduate or if don't pass your thesis defense you don't graduate, I'm sure you'd make the time to the work done. I am operating under the assumption that you want to graduate, if you want to stay in undergrad and be a super senior than chances are you'll blow it off

There is no simple cure. I get my tags on the last day. I get my drivers on the last day when they expire. I get my pistol permit on the last day.
Don't worry about it we are all in it together...It is natural for the majority of the society we live in....

Just do it - once you do it then you will feel better and have more time to yourself. Making a to do list is always helpful.
