Matt above, if true a professor, is an idiot. You do NOT have clinical depression. To get a diagnostic like that you'd have to be seriously messed up. You probably just feel burned out like most people do.
That's probably because you're in your first semester and you bought into that crap of college professors assigning you 50 readings a day and telling you it'll all be in the test. Soon you'll learn how easy it can all be. I graduated with a double major from a top 20 Public University and didn't get stressed much at all. Now I'm going to Law School.
With the options there are right now in the world, quitting school is your worse choice. If you feel your school is too competitive, transfer to a State school or Community College. As soon as you reach upper division level your school will probably give you re-admission because they don't want a statistic of a student dropping out.

This doesn't sound good. If you hate it, then why are you there. You are just wasting money. You might finish your degree, but you won't have learned much and you will never get another chance to do it.
Why don't you take a term off? You could get a good taste of the real world, then when you are ready, come back to school.
I taught college for many years. I always thought it was sad when I had a student who obviously hated the whole thing. It's curious, but I had many students who had been out in the world of work for a few years and had come back to school - they were almost always the best student in the class, totally prepared and eager to do the work. I can't think of a single one of them who was ever bored with school. Why do you suppose that is?
Another thing you should think over is, you might be suffering from clinical depression. A lot of young people have depression for physiologic reasons. It is a disease, just like arthritis or cancer. You should talk to a physician or counselor. You might be able to get some meds that would make you feel a lot better (OK, I hear a snicker, but I am serious.)

*raises hand* me me me!
Oh my gosh, it's horrible.
Me and my friends have ourselves an incentive program. We should all be done with school in about 5 or so years so until then we are saving all our change and then when we graduate we will go on a vacation to Hawaii. It keeps things in perspective and us motivated.
Oh and the change is not meant to fund the trip but it's just something that we can do to make it fun and we can see the progress over time.

i love the whole living on campus thing and being able to see a lot of your friends by just walking about 3 minutes, and i even like some of my teachers. what i don't like is the stupid labs they put us in for science classes. mine is 2 hrs long and i hate it. i also don't like my math teacher she's going to drive me insane.
