Poly Cystic Ovaries, or Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS for short) is a medical condition affecting women.
I could type lots of information about it, but this site is much more informative and helpful than just about anything anyone could post here.

I hope it helps.

Sorry to contradict what others have said, but felt that as quite a few people had said it is also known as Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), you might take it as fact.
In fact, Polycystic Ovaries (what I've got) simply means many cysts on the ovary. this can be caused by a variety of things. Functional cysts that contain the egg, endometrisis etc. You certainly get polycystic ovaries from PCOS. whichis a hormone problem with symptoms such as polycystic ovaries, excessive hariness and weight gain.
Here are some web sites to prove the point.

hi trevor it is a disease that gynaecologists know very little about it is related to the endocrine system in the body and no one really knows why. it causes cysts on the ovaries which may relate to infertility and it can cause women to become very overweight, have excess facial hair growth and severe acne. it is very very disturbing for women going through this disease as each woman will have a different response and degree of severity. Not a nice thing, however there are drugs nowadays which canhelp over time regards jet

Polycystic Ovaries (PCO) otherwise known as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome, are enlarged, smooth ovaries containing multiple, small follicle cysts. They have been associated with absent or retarded menstruation (known as amenorrhoea), infertility, acne, obesity and hirsuitism (male-pattern hair growth).
